Eating Disorders

I am very grateful to Aesthetic Realism and its founder, Eli Siegel, for understanding the cause of eating disorders, and for enabling the ten-year hell I was in with both anorexia and bulimia to end completely.

I tell what I've learned in public talks—for example at Columbia University, Princeton University, Paul Smith's College, and for high school and junior high students. To see a short video from a talk, see the sidebar at right.

Today I am a healthy, happy woman and am able to see and enjoy food with a respect and pleasure I never imagined possible. Aesthetic Realism shows that the way we see food comes from our attitude to the whole world. The fight a person can have about food is really one aspect of the largest fight in everyone—

between our deepest desire, to like the world honestly, and the hope to have contempt for it.

At left are links to pages with some of the talks I've given. There is also a reprint of an article I had published in various newspapers—in pdf format.
