Democritus Junior
A
Personal Web Site Created and Maintained by John Herbert Gill

My web site is inspired by
the original "Democritus Junior," Robert Burton, an Anglican priest
who lived some centuries ago, and who wrote about everything under the sun. His
monumental work was called The Anatomy of
Melancholy.
He was reproached in his
day for being interested in so many things that went beyond "religion,"
and for spending his time in the study of matters which seemed to have little
to do with being a priest. His contemporaries were not amused by his tendency
to find humor in everything.
I have borrowed his name, as he in turn borrowed the name of Democritus
(ca 460 B.C.), the best-known proponent of Atomic Theory in Greek antiquity.
There is more about him inside this site.
