John Miller died on June 24, 1941 at age 66. At the time he was in Houston, Texas planning a roller coaster for that city.
Reproduced below is the death notice that appeared in the Houston Post on Wednesday, June 25, 1941 (section 2, page 6):
John A. Miller, 66, of Homewood, Illinois died in a hotel here at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. J. A. Miller of Homewood. The body was sent to the Cordt Funeral Home in Homewood at midnight Tuesday over the Missouri Pacific Railway for burial there. Fogel West Funeral Home local directors.
In Miller's native Illinois, this article was published in the Chicago Heights Star on June 27, 1941 (page 2):
JOHN A. MILLER IS DEAD; MADE THRILL RIDESJohn August Miller, well known to Homewood residents and a part-time resident of the village, died in Houston, Texas, Tuesday after a heart attack.
Miller's business was the construction of roller coasters and other rides for amusement parks. For more than thirty years he had traveled over the southwestern United States and Mexico to build new thrill rides.
After their marriage Mrs. Miller traveled with her husband for ten years. In 1915 they built a home on Miller's court. When he had a few months off, Miller would come to Homewood and stay until the next job started. At other times Mrs. Miller would join her husband in the West.
The funeral will take place at two p.m. today at Cordt's Funeral Home and from there to the St. Paul Community church at 2:30 p.m.
Miller is survived by his wife and by three sisters, Mrs. Henry Lempke, of Homewood; Mrs. John B. Bielfeldt, of Thornton, and Miss Lena Weil, of Blairstown, Iowa.
