Boat Logo

The name is taken from the famous choral apostrophe that begins and ends Carl Orff's exciting Carmina Burana"O Fortuna, velut luna, statu variabilis."  Which translates, "O Fortune, like the moon, you are always changing!"
The logo was expressly designed by VLOG's Resident Set Designer, David Jones and (though I say so who shouldn't) it's a perfect encapsulation of the boat's idea!

There she be.  VELUT LUNA is a Columbia 43 auxiliary cruising sloop, built in 1971.  I'm her third owner, having bought her in Quincy, Mass., on October 24, 1997, and having been thoroughly preoccupied by her ever since.

The Columbia 43 was a William Tripp Sr. design -- a sign of quality to them what knows about such things.  Tripp's designs tended to favor slightly the sporty side of the cruiser/racer yacht design dichotomy.  They're famous for their big, flat, spread-out decks and roominess below.  She measures 43'3" from bow to stern; 12'4" abeam; 61' from waterline to the top of the mast.  Her Westerbeke diesel engine boasts 58 horsepower.  At 11 tons, she's not exactly
svelte, but I love her!

Notwithstanding her seaworthiness and fine lines, the sales point, for me, was my friend
Margaret Grace Johnson's statement (of a sister ship), "That boat is so much fun!  That's a great party boat!"

And so she has proven.  Come see!
