Kissena lake was naturally created by glaciers thousands of years ago. The small color photo is the lake before 1943, cause thats when the cement sides were added, giving it the nickname “bathtub lake”.The photo to the right is dated 1911, and was scanned from Newsday, a NYC newspaper.

The photo above with the two boys fishing and the one beside it are dated 1908 from newsday.com. The one to the right is my mom, me and my brother in 1970. See the row boats in the lake. The city used to rent out boats to the public. That was discontinued in the mid 70’s.
