Before I begin painting, I first have
to seduce myself back into the moment, the memory, the emotion. I try to
recall the smell of the air, the feel of the breeze, the lighting, the
unusual color, all that was unique in that moment. It's a trance. A
pathway into the essence of the landscape, the essence of the person,
the essence of me.
Each one of my paintings has been a
child, a friend, a lover, a teacher. Each has had it's own voice. To
bring out and capture the moment requires careful observation. To be
observant and to be still, has taken years of praying, years of looking,
years of listening and studying. My work is a meditation between me, my
memories and my emotions.
